The intervention concerned the calculation of a metal structure and relative foundation in cast-in-place reinforced concrete to protect the Customer’s vertical automatic warehouse for the storage of raw materials (metal bars) and finished products. The new structure is self-supporting and buffered by insulated sandwich panels. The warehouse is made up of two opposite metal shelves and of an automated transfer
automated move able to deliver to the operators the required stocked material. The automated warehouse has planimetric dimensions of about 3,60 x 2,80 square meters and a height of about 12,70 m. This machinery is located next to the existing industrial shed, to which access is given by removing part of the side closing panels.
The metal structure in question, with a rectangular mesh of 10 x 3.80 sq.m. and a height of about 14 m, has been built to contain the automatic warehouse and to connect it to the existing shed.

There is only one floor, the covering one, as all the internal space has been left free to house the machinery.
Access to the roof, for maintenance operations, is guaranteed by three flights of prefabricated metal stairs.
At the second landing level of the aforesaid stairs, a metal gangway has been realized in overhang for the access to the roof of the adjacent industrial shed of the Client company.
The machinery and the metal structure are founded on a superficial slab in cast-in-place reinforced concrete, to which the pillars of the superstructure and the automatic warehouse are anchored.
The slab has a footprint area of 7.40 x 6.40 square meters, and a maximum thickness of 1.10 m; the connection with the metal structure is made by means of anchor bolts embedded in the concrete casting.
Nominal life: according to art. 2.4 of D.M. 14/01/2008 the structural calculator has provided that the structures must have a nominal life of 50 years, a class of use equal to II, which corresponds to a reference period for the seismic action of 50 years.
